SOPHIA Discussion

Ethics of Online Catfishing

This project was an ethical discussion led by my team in Communications Law & Ethics. We were tasked to produce an event presenting an ethical question that would commence a discussion. This event was hosted by SOPHIA (Society of Philosophers in America) public discussions. After finalizing a discussion topic, our team instructed weekly meetings to pull together significant ideas and topics to be discussed in this event. Leading up to the event, we created a one sheet to hand out to participants to follow mini prompts, ask, and answer questions throughout the hour period. In planning the event, I was in lead contact with our venue, Strong Style Coffee Shop, in Fitchburg Massachusetts. Through dedicated communication with the venue, I was able to organize coffee for the guests, set up a projector and slideshow presentation to aid conversation, and help build a welcoming environment for discussion. Through a team of eight, unfortunately members are easy to stray, but a few core members on the team, including myself, were able to bring this event to success.
